Frequently asked questions.

We're a more traditional couple - do you do traditional photography and videography?

Even though we do adhere to traditional wedding photography and videography practices, such as taking family portraits and covering the entire ceremony and reception, we always push ourselves to take pictures that other photographers might miss. This means that to guarantee that each couple never receives the same rehashed/boring photos, we constantly do new and exciting things with them. What motivates us is making something special for you on your wedding day and during your engagement session. We'll get along just fine if you value spontaneity, artistic expression, photojournalism, and creativity:)

When is the best time?

We typically have a schedule of shoots and weddings on the weekends, so, if possible, the weekdays are preferable. Please get in touch with us so that we can arrange an appointment that works for both of us if you are only available on the weekends.

How quickly do you turn around photos from our wedding day?

Our turnaround time ranges from 6 to 10 weeks on average. Since editing and culling take up most of our workflow time, we have considered outsourcing this work to another company, but we simply cannot compromise on quality to meet a deadline more quickly. Every single photo that is sent to you is culled and edited by Mal or Tad, and we much prefer to issue you a print credit for a late delivery than to send you an incomplete gallery that we don't think accurately represents our brand.

How come you take so many images and only deliver half of them?

As a professional, we usually shoot 2-4 images of the same scene or moment in a burst. This makes it more likely that our autofocus will be precise, that we will capture a good expression on the subject, and that our eyes won't be closed. Due to this, we choose the best image to deliver rather than delivering 5 consecutive images of the same moment or scene. :-)

Have you taken all the photos on your website?

All the content has been taken by us.

How would you describe your editing style?

We enjoy editing with matted blacks and deep colors to give the pictures a softer appearance while keeping the bright colors. Additionally, we refine skin tone and lightly sharpen as part of our process. all our editing process take place in Lightroom.

What is your photographic style?

Traditional wedding  and photojournalism have greatly influenced our work. This means that even though we enjoy photographing you and your significant other in "posed" settings, we always make it a point to search for spontaneous interactions and moments. Numerous moving and captivating photos that can only be captured through photojournalism can be found in our complete body of work.

Do you have a business license for Alpha Kal Photography and videography?

Yes! Alpha Kal Photography and videography is a licensed business in the state of California.

How do you ensure that the photos you take are backed up and safe from fire or accidental deletion?

We take many precautions to guarantee the safety of your images while they are in our possession. Our cameras support the use of dual memory cards, so in the event of a failure, one photo will be written to two different memory cards during your wedding. The pictures are synced and backed up to two different hard drives when they return to the office.

What about a backup camera?  Do you have one?

We shoot photography with a 2 Canon 5DVI/III and Videography with Lumix GH6 top-of-the-line mirrorless camera.

My friend said he has a professional camera and could photograph our wedding. Why should we pay you when he could do it for free?

We work in this field for more than 10 years, unlike your relative. We have every wedding-appropriate lens, multiple cameras, professional editing software, off-camera lighting to really make your photos pop. Additionally, we work entirely while we are employed, as opposed to friends who might want to "have a few drinks" while celebrating and miss crucial moment.

I'm satisfied with that response. How about the additional photographer we discovered online? He or she wants to bill us for $1,000 less than you are. Why do I pick you?

We have thought about this over the years. Why should you pick us? We have been photographing weddings and portraits for many years, and during that time we have acquired both important knowledge and the ability to anticipate images that will never be produced again. This means that we have a predetermined method of operating and viewing the world. We make sure that no time is wasted, and We are constantly on the lookout for new subjects to photograph. We are observant, and because of that, we notice things before they happen.

I saw a photo of yours that I really liked.  Is it possible to duplicate that exact image?

Due to the nature of on-location shoots, lighting variations make it nearly impossible to reproduce a particular shot. However, we guarantee that our session will result in some incredible pictures that are not only one of a kind but also perfectly represent your personality and sense of style.

What backup plan do you have to ensure that any photography event is scheduled to be photographed on time?

We use top-notch, reliable photography equipment that has never let our team down. We also have a backup camera and other equipment to guarantee that all your images will be expertly taken on schedule and at the exact moment they occur.

Where are you located?

We are located in San Diego, California, but will be more than happy to travel anywhere in California or outside California. When it comes to travel the are 3 expanse hotel/housing, travel/airfare and transport at the city. We ask the client to pay two of their chose and we pay one off those.
